Downloading Photos With Canon 300D

Tagged with: — ondrej at 10:29 pm on Tuesday, December 26, 2006

It is quite clear that downloading photos from a Canon 300D digital camera is very slow. It contains a USB 1 port — new cameras have a USB 2 or Firewire port or they are connected to a WiFi card.
I tested the speed of the camera (one year ago, but maybe it will be still interesting for somebody) and I compared the results to a USB 2 Hama card reader.

Let’s have a Sandisk card with 34 MB of photos — they will be downloaded:

  • with a Canon 300D camera in 3 minutes and 16 seconds.
  • with a USB 2 Hama card reader in 34 seconds.

It is simple — if you have a digital camera with a USB 1 port, buy a USB 2 card reader. I like my digital camera, but a USB 1 port is an archaism.

P.S.
I am going to write a post about the distributed Ruby (Drb) and Rinda and was looking for examples on my disk and I found an older file with the above mentioned test. Actually, I planned to have this post in my old blog (only in Slovak), but… time flies faster.
